童話を英訳してみたシリーズ第9弾。今回は「ジャックと豆の木（Jack and the Beanstalk）」です。

あらすじ（英訳）
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jack.
He lived with only his mother and they were very poor.
One day, they decided to sell the cow that were no longer producing milk.
Jack went outside with the cow.
Then, Jack met a strange old man.
He said,
“Hi, Jack. If you give me the cow, I will give you this magic beans!”
“These beans are amazing. When sown on the ground, they grow high to the sky.”
He told Jack so Jack answers,
“Wow! I want them! Let’s trade cows for beans!”
So, they traded cows for magic beans.
When Jack brought the beans home, his mother is very angry.
“Oh, no! Why did you give the cow for some beans?
I don’t want these beans!”
and she threw the beans outside…
…
Next morning, Jack went outside and was surprised.
A big beanstalk went up to the sky just as the old man said they would.
“Wow, those were real magic beans! Amazing!”
Jack climbed up the beanstalk and reached top of the clouds.
There was a giant’s house.
As Jack hided in the shadows to see what is going on, the giant took out a hen and said.
“Lay a golden egg!”
After saying, the hen laid a golden egg.
When Jack saw this, he stole the hen to his house.
Thanks to the hen that lays golden eggs, Jack and his mother no longer have to worry about making ends meet.
But Jack wanted more of another treasure and headed once more to the giant’s house.

There was a golden harp that automatically played beautiful songs.
The giant was sleeping comfortably listening to its song.
Jack also tried to stole a golden harp to his house.
However, the golden harp cries out.
“Help me! A thief!”
So the giant chased Jack.
“Wait!”
Jack jumped down the beanstalk and cut the beanstalk.
Thud!
The giant fell headlong to the ground and died as he was.
After that, the hen laid golden eggs everyday, and the golden harp played a beautiful songs.
Jack and his mother became rich and lived happily ever after!
あらすじ（日本語）
あるところに、ジャックという少年がいました。
ジャックはお母さんと2人で暮らしていますが、2人はとても貧乏でした。
そんなある日、お金に困った2人はミルクのでなくなった牛を売ることにしました。
ジャックは牛を連れてでかけます。
すると、不思議なおじいさんに出会いました。
「ジャックや。もし牛をわしにくれるのならば、この魔法の豆を代わりにあげよう！」
おじいさんはそうジャックに言います。
「この豆はすごくてのう。地面にまくと天まで高く伸びるんじゃ」
おじいさんがそう言うと、ジャックは
「それならば欲しい！牛と豆を交換しよう！」
と言い、2人は牛と魔法の豆を交換しました。
ジャックが豆を家に持ち帰るとお母さんはカンカンに怒ります。
「どうして牛をあげてしまったの！こんな豆はいらないわ！」
そう言って、お母さんは豆を外に投げ捨ててしまいました。
…
翌朝、ジャックは外にでて驚きました。
おじいさんの言った通り、天まで届く大きな豆の木が庭に生えていたのです。
「本当に魔法の豆だったんだ！すごいや！」
ジャックはその豆の木を登り、雲の上までたどり着きました。
そこにはなんと、大男のお屋敷がありました。
ジャックが物陰に隠れて様子を伺っていると、大男がめんどりを取り出します。
「金の卵を産めー！」
大男がそう言うと、めんどりは金の卵を産みます。
それを見たジャックは隙を見て、そのめんどりを家に持って帰りました。
金の卵を産むめんどりのおかげでジャックとお母さんは生活に困らなくなりました。
しかし、もっと別のお宝も欲しい！と、ジャックはもう一度大男の屋敷へ向かいます。
「♪~」
そこには美しい音楽を自動で奏でる金のハープがありました。
その音色を聞いて大男は気持ちよさそうに寝ています。
ジャックはまた、金のハープを盗んで家に帰ろうとします。
ところが、金のハープが叫びます。
「助けてー！泥棒よ！」
その声を聞いた大男がジャックを追いかけてきます。
「待てー！」
ジャックは慌てて地面に飛び降り、斧で豆の木を切ってしまいました。すると、
ドスーーーン！！！
大男は地面に真っ逆さまに落ちてしまい、そのまま亡くなってしまいました。
その後、めんどりは毎日金の卵を産み、ハープは素敵な音色を奏でてくれました。
そして2人は、お金持ちになり幸せに暮らしましたとさ。
